In a strongly worded statement, the commission condemned “all forms of violence, emphasizing that the right to peaceful protest is a fundamental cornerstone of our democracy.”
“It is imperative that security forces carry out their duties with full respect for human rights and human dignity. We stress the importance of exercising restraint and professionalism in times of tension,” the commission added.
Highlighting the legal recourse available, the commission emphasized that “any challenges to election results must be pursued through legal channels as stipulated by law, before the Constitutional Council.”
“We strongly encourage all candidates and their supporters to follow this legal course to ensure respect for democracy and stability in our country. Resorting to legal measures is essential to maintain the integrity of our electoral process and ensure the fair and transparent resolution of disputes,” the commission stated.
The commission further urged “citizens to maintain calm, exercise restraint, and refrain from any violent actions that could exacerbate the situation.”
