Cameroon’s Minister of Public Health, Malachie Manaouda, announced on Tuesday the launch of the second round of a synchronized polio vaccination campaign in partnership with Nigeria, Chad, and the Central African Republic.
The initiative, aimed at combating type 2 poliovirus, will run from November 22 to 25.
Targeting 3.5 million children across four regions—Adamaoua, East, Far North, and North—the campaign seeks to provide vital immunization coverage.
“In addition to vaccinating against poliovirus, we will ensure that children aged 0 to 59 months who have missed previous doses are also covered,” said Manaouda.
The initiative goes beyond polio prevention.
As part of the campaign, children aged 6 to 59 months will receive vitamin A supplements to bolster their immune systems, while deworming medication will be administered to children between 12 and 59 months.
Pregnant women will also benefit from preventive malaria treatment during the campaign period.
This collaborative effort underscores the regional commitment to eradicating polio and addressing critical health challenges affecting vulnerable populations.
