Botswana: President Duma Boko swears in new cabinet ministers, urges commitment to national progress
President Duma Boko has sworn in six new cabinet ministers and two assistant ministers, urging them to dedicate themselves to advancing Botswana’s national aspirations and raising the country’s global profile.
During the swearing-in ceremony in Gaborone on November 12, President Boko addressed the newly appointed officials, reminding them of the significant responsibility they now bear.
He emphasized that their roles would require them to formulate and implement policies aimed at addressing the nation’s challenges, often under pressure and with limited time.
“We welcome you all into the service of this Republic,” President Boko stated.
“Be mindful that you carry the heavy responsibility of meeting and satisfying the expectations of a nation eager for change and recognition, and a leadership that serves with unwavering commitment.”
The President also stressed the importance of maintaining public trust.
“You must always uphold the confidence of both the people and the nation you serve.
It is essential to honor the citizens and protect their rights, freedom, and dignity,” he continued.
In his speech, Boko encouraged the new ministers to adhere strictly to the values and principles enshrined in the country’s Constitution, emphasizing the need for the highest ethical and moral standards in their conduct.
“I commend you on your appointments and entrust you to the citizens of this country.
Work with them, guide them, and most importantly, do not fail or disappoint the values enshrined in our Constitution,” President Boko concluded.
The new cabinet includes Vice President and Minister of Finance, Mr. Ndaba Gaolathe; Minister of Health, Dr. Steven Modise; Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Dr. Micus Chimbombi; Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs, Ms. Lesego Chombo; Minister of International Relations, Dr. Phenyo Butale; and Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Dr. Nono Kgafela-Mokoka.
The two assistant ministers are Dr. Edwin Dikoloti for Lands and Agriculture and Mr. Lawrence Ookeditse for Health.
The President’s remarks underscore the high expectations placed on the new leadership as Botswana continues its path toward progress and development.
