Morocco and Guinea deepen strategic partnership with renewed commitments
Rabat witnessed a high-level meeting on Thursday as Morocco’s Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch welcomed his Guinean counterpart, Bah Oury, to discuss mechanisms for strengthening economic collaboration under the South-South cooperation framework.
The meeting, also attended by Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, emphasized shared priorities such as strategic sector cooperation, regional stability, and bolstering historical ties between the two nations.
These ties have been reinforced by state visits from King Mohammed VI to Guinea in 2014 and 2017, laying the groundwork for a partnership rooted in mutual solidarity and development.
Prime Ministers Akhannouch and Bah reaffirmed their commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and inclusive social development.
Morocco pledged continued support to Guinea in vital sectors, including agriculture, fishing, healthcare, and industry, helping enhance Guinea’s national capacities.
This collaboration aligns with Morocco’s continental strategy, championed by King Mohammed VI, to advance African solidarity and inter-African partnerships as pillars of development.
Akhannouch also praised Guinea’s unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces, exemplified by the 2020 opening of a Guinean consulate in Dakhla.
This gesture underscores Guinea’s commitment to Morocco’s territorial integrity.
The talks explored practical measures to energize economic ties, particularly through South-South cooperation.
Both nations committed to implementing agreements reached during the seventh session of the Morocco-Guinea Joint Commission in July.
These initiatives aim to diversify partnerships, especially in public-private collaboration, vocational training, energy, and food security.
At the July session, co-chaired by Bourita and Guinean Foreign Minister Morissanda Kouyaté, Guinea reiterated its endorsement of Morocco’s autonomy plan as a credible solution for the Western Sahara dispute.
Guinea also acknowledged Morocco’s leadership in fostering peace and development across Africa.
Both countries highlighted their alignment on key African priorities, including the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), emphasizing inter-African cooperation as a solution to economic challenges and a pathway to regional stability.
The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to elevate their bilateral partnership as a model of South-South solidarity, with a vision of achieving peace, prosperity, and sustainable development across the continent.
