Macky Sall leads opposition campaign to counter “Incoherent” governance in Senegal
Macky Sall, former president and leader of the opposition coalition Takku-Wallu Sénégal, has called for widespread support in the upcoming legislative elections to curb what he describes as the “incoherent” governance of his successor, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
As Senegal prepares for the anticipated elections on November 17, Sall, who stepped down in April, has returned to the political arena with a determined campaign to restore stability and reforms to the country.
In a statement shared widely with the public, Sall urged voters to support the opposition, including his own Takku-Wallu coalition, as well as other parties like Samm Sa Kaddu and Jamm Ak Njarign, which have joined forces to challenge the current government.
He emphasized that an absence of action on his part would be tantamount to neglecting his responsibility as a citizen “well-versed in the affairs of the state.”
Sall criticized the current administration for its rapid decline in the national situation, citing economic slowdowns, institutional tensions, and difficulties in critical sectors such as agriculture and construction.
He painted a bleak picture of the country’s current state, arguing that the government’s performance over the past eight months has been inadequate.
Despite criticism from his successors regarding his leadership during his twelve years in office, Sall pointed to the accomplishments of his presidency, including significant infrastructure developments, economic growth, and strides in social justice.
He promised that his coalition, Takku-Wallu Sénégal, is fully equipped to implement immediate reforms if they win the majority in the National Assembly.
“We are prepared to restore the functioning of the institutions, reduce the cost of living, and support the integration of young graduates into the workforce,” Sall declared.
Sall’s campaign also focuses on fostering national stability and ensuring the proper functioning of democratic institutions.
He committed to the creation of a national unity government, promising that he would convene a reconciliation summit within three months of the elections.
Furthermore, his platform includes emergency programs for flood victims, a plan to combat illegal migration, and initiatives aimed at reducing state expenditures and revitalizing stalled projects, particularly those related to his signature Plan Sénégal Émergent (PSE), which the current administration has replaced with Vision Sénégal 2050.
“Together, we can build the Senegal of our dreams—reconciled, peaceful, and focused on progress,” Sall concluded, calling on citizens to unite in this critical moment to ensure the future of the country.
