Local farmers in Thaba Tseka have been awarded for their dedication to agriculture as part of a one-day training session hosted by Farmers Pitso.
The initiative, aimed at fostering growth and knowledge, saw a large turnout of district farmers eager to improve their agricultural practices.
Mr. Majake Mabele, from Mabele Poultry Farm, expressed optimism about the event’s impact.
“The sheer number of participants shows their strong desire to grow and learn more,” he told reporters on Saturday.
Mabele also noted that the region’s topography offers significant opportunities, particularly for farming rabbits and raising pigs, which could easily thrive in the district’s environment.
This training forms part of a broader effort to strengthen agriculture in Lesotho, equipping farmers with the tools and expertise needed to boost productivity and foster sustainable farming practices.
Meanwhile, in Qacha’s Nek, a capacity-building project led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Nutrition (MAFSN) is underway.
The initiative, in collaboration with the Lesotho Red Cross Society (LRCS), is focused on empowering lead farmers in the region.
The project is part of a larger, nine-month scheme funded by the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF), which aims to tackle food insecurity and malnutrition.
Launched in May 2024, the project includes training for farmers in Ha Thube and Tebellong, with a focus on promoting proper nutrition and preparing for seed distribution.
It is expected to run until February 2025, with the goal of enhancing food security for local communities.
Both efforts underscore Lesotho’s commitment to improving the agricultural sector, empowering farmers, and addressing challenges related to food security and nutrition across the country.
