Egypt’s foreign minister praises Algeria’s commitment to Arab causes in high-level Algiers meeting

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty has praised Algeria’s “major role” in defending Arab causes, particularly the Palestinian issue, during a diplomatic visit to Algiers on Thursday.
Speaking after an audience with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Egyptian diplomat delivered a letter from President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and conveyed Cairo’s appreciation for Algeria’s steadfast commitment to Arab rights at the United Nations Security Council.
“I conveyed Egypt’s appreciation for Algeria’s prominent role in defending Arab causes and rights, including the Palestinian cause, from its seat at the UN Security Council,” said Abdel-Atty.
During the meeting, both parties addressed regional efforts to resist what they described as attempts to undermine the Palestinian cause.
Abdel-Atty commended Algeria’s stance and affirmed its support for Palestinians’ right to remain on their land and oppose forced displacement.
“I praised Algeria’s position regarding our Palestinian brothers and its support for their right to remain on their land and confront plans of forced displacement,” he stated.
He also noted that President Tebboune reiterated Algeria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people across all levels of diplomacy and international engagement.
Abdel-Atty briefed the Algerian president on Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic efforts—coordinated with Qatar and the United States—to end what he referred to as the “unjust war of aggression” against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
He emphasized the need to return to the ceasefire agreement established on January 19 as a pathway to peace.
The two leaders also discussed the Arab-Muslim plan for reconstructing Gaza, contingent on a lasting ceasefire.
Abdel-Atty highlighted Egypt’s proposal to host the International Cairo Conference on Reconstruction, signaling its readiness to help implement the initiative.
He concluded by underscoring the shared vision between Algeria and Egypt to intensify efforts aimed at achieving peace, security, and stability in the Middle East, the Arab world, and the African continent amid rapidly evolving geopolitical dynamics.
