DRC vows to reclaim territory amid Rwandan aggression allegations

Democratic Republic of Congo President Félix Tshisekedi reiterated his government’s commitment to reclaiming every inch of national territory currently occupied by what he termed as terrorists and Rwandan forces.

This assertion comes amidst heightened tensions and security challenges in the eastern regions of the country.

The strategic session, focused on addressing the security crises and a proposed humanitarian truce by the United States, brought together key government figures.

Attendees included the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Ministers of Interior and Defense, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and the Minister of Communication and Media.

Following the meeting, government spokesperson Patrick Muyaya conveyed the resolute stance of both the President and his administration. “As stated in the last meeting of the Supreme Defense Council, our determination remains unchanged.

We are doing everything in our power to ensure that we recover every portion of our national territory occupied by these terrorists and by Rwanda,” Muyaya emphasized.

The gathering underscored the DRC’s refusal to compromise on its territorial integrity, even as international actors, notably the United States, call for a humanitarian ceasefire and mediation efforts.

The U.S. has explicitly named Rwanda as a significant player in the ongoing conflict, a move that has intensified the scrutiny on Kigali’s role in the region.

President Tshisekedi is expected to chair another crucial meeting later this evening, focusing on the Security Task Force.

This session aims to delve deeper into actionable strategies for restoring peace and stability across the affected areas.

The situation in the eastern DRC remains volatile, with various armed groups operating in the mineral-rich region.

The Congolese government has frequently accused Rwanda of supporting these insurgents, a claim that Rwanda has consistently denied.

The ongoing conflict has displaced thousands and created a severe humanitarian crisis, further complicating efforts to achieve lasting peace.

The international community continues to monitor the developments closely, with diplomatic channels exploring potential resolutions.

However, the DRC government remains steadfast in its approach, prioritizing national sovereignty and security over external pressures and proposed interventions.
