Arab transport ministers urged to strengthen cooperation for improved logistics and profitability
During the 37th session of the Arab Transport Ministers Council, held in Alexandria, Egypt, on November 14, 2024, Rachid Amri, Tunisia’s Minister of Transport, emphasized the need for greater coordination among Arab nations to enhance the profitability of transport and logistics across the region.
The event brought together transport ministers, ambassadors, and leaders from various Arab countries to discuss ways to better integrate the Arab economy into global value chains.
Minister Amri stressed that achieving these goals would require the development of a complementary network of infrastructure and improved connectivity across diverse transport modes.
He further highlighted the importance of aligning national strategies to optimize logistics and transport systems while adhering to international standards on security, safety, environmental preservation, and the seamless movement of both passengers and goods.
“Coordinating efforts between Arab countries is crucial to improving the profitability of our transport and logistics sectors. This will allow us to better integrate the Arab economy into international value chains,” said Amri.
He also underscored the vital role the Arab Transport Ministers Council plays in formulating and implementing common strategies to advance the sector, contributing to the development plans of the member countries and fostering stronger connections between the Arab people.
The Council’s discussions also focused on the importance of establishing sustainable, clean, and resilient transport systems capable of responding to the challenges of climate change.
Amri noted that a unified approach would help ensure that Arab nations develop transport systems that are not only economically efficient but also environmentally responsible.
The meeting, held at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, was attended by transportation ministers from across the Arab world, along with ambassadors and heads of various Arab unions.
The session emphasized a commitment to furthering the region’s transport infrastructure to facilitate economic growth and greater regional integration.
