United Capital Asset Management West Africa Limited (UCAMWAL), a subsidiary of Nigeria’s United Capital Plc, has officially launched two CFA franc-denominated investment funds in a strategic move to expand its footprint in French-speaking West Africa.
Headquartered in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, the new branch marks United Capital’s first fully operational subsidiary in the Francophone region and is fully licensed to operate as a portfolio management company within the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU).
In a statement released Thursday, UCAMWAL introduced its two new financial instruments: the UCAMWAL Bond Fund, which focuses on fixed-income securities, and the UCAMWAL Diversified Fund, which employs a multi-asset investment strategy.
Both funds are tailored to meet the financial goals of retail and institutional investors across WAEMU’s eight member states—Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal, and Togo.
Peter Ashade, Chief Executive Officer of United Capital Plc, described the launch as a pivotal milestone in the group’s pan-African ambitions.
“This is the beginning of a legacy focused on wealth creation and financial empowerment,” he said, stressing the importance of promoting financial inclusion and building economic resilience across the continent.
Ejikeme Okoli, Director of Africa Operations, echoed this vision, emphasizing UCAMWAL’s dedication to forging long-term partnerships in the region.
“Our focus is on inclusive growth and creating shared value with our stakeholders in WAEMU,” he remarked.
Labas Bamba, Managing Director of UCAMWAL, highlighted the company’s localized approach. “These funds are designed to respond to the specific investment needs of the WAEMU market while aligning with global best practices,” he noted.
United Capital Plc currently manages nearly 2 trillion naira in assets, including over $500 million in mutual funds in Nigeria alone.
With this new venture, the group aims to replicate its success and drive wealth creation across Francophone West Africa.
