Tunisia welcomes Lebanon ceasefire, calls for broader regional peace
Tunisia has expressed its support for the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, which came into effect on November 27, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday.
In its statement, Tunisia voiced hope that the agreement would mark a step toward a “permanent and comprehensive cessation of hostilities,” enabling the safe return of displaced residents in southern Lebanon and the complete withdrawal of occupying forces from Lebanese territory.
The Tunisian government emphasized the significance of this development in bolstering Lebanon’s security, safeguarding its sovereignty, and creating an environment conducive to rebuilding its institutions and initiating the reconstruction process.
“The ceasefire is a critical step,” the ministry noted, adding that it could also serve as a catalyst for ending the “genocidal war being waged against the Palestinian people in occupied Palestine.”
The statement further underscored the need for the international community to compel occupying forces to adhere to United Nations resolutions.
It called for immediate measures to ensure the protection of the Palestinian population and the reopening of border crossings, particularly the Rafah crossing, to allow the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid and relief supplies.
Tunisia reiterated its firm stance on the importance of international solidarity in addressing the ongoing crises in the region, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable solutions to safeguard the rights and security of affected populations.
The ceasefire in Lebanon has been widely viewed as a positive step toward stabilizing the region, with countries like Tunisia advocating for broader measures to ensure lasting peace and humanitarian support across conflict zones.
