
In Abéché, Chad, former students of the Lycée National Franco-Arabe organized a notable act of solidarity on Tuesday, 23 September 2025, donating essential educational materials to their alma mater.
The initiative, led by the Association des Anciens Élèves du Lycée National Franco-Arabe d’Abéché (AAELNFAA), forms part of the group’s ongoing civic engagement and commitment to supporting education.
The donated items included reams of paper, science textbooks, novels, and boxes of chalk, aimed at equipping the school for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Yacoub Hassan, Secretary-General of the alumni association, emphasised the symbolic importance of the gesture, stating that it reflected the group’s enduring gratitude towards the institution that shaped their formative years.
“Our goal is to support the lycée as a mark of recognition for the education we received,” he said.
The school principal, Abakar Adoum Mahamat, welcomed the donation, highlighting its crucial role in facilitating a productive start to the new school year. “We are deeply grateful for this contribution, which will directly benefit both teachers and students as they embark on the academic year,” he remarked.
Presiding over the ceremony, Adoum Idriss, representing the Delegate of National Education and Civic Promotion of Ouaddaï, stressed the pivotal role of education in driving development.
He expressed his appreciation to the alumni for their initiative and encouraged other organizations to follow their example. “Education is the foundation of our society’s progress. Acts like this set a standard for civic responsibility and community support,” he said.
The event concluded with a symbolic handover of the educational materials, reinforcing the connection between past and present students and demonstrating how alumni engagement can contribute to improving learning conditions.
The initiative has been widely praised as a model for strengthening community ties and supporting educational development in Chad.
