The Association of Sports Journalists of Burkina Faso (AJSB) commemorated the third edition of International Sports Press Day on Saturday, July 5, 2025, in Tintoulou, calling attention to the vital role of sports journalists in the country’s national resilience and territorial reconquest efforts.
Observed globally on July 2 each year, International Sports Press Day serves as an occasion for journalists to reflect on their mission and reassert their professional values.
In Burkina Faso, this year’s celebration was themed “Role and Responsibility of the Sports Press in the Process of Popular and Progressive Revolution in Burkina Faso,” spotlighting the patriotic commitment of media professionals in a nation navigating complex challenges.
Ibrahim Diallo, President of AJSB, emphasized the intersection between sports, national unity, and civic duty.
“Sport is a field of passion, it’s true, but it is also a field of resilience and achievement. Burkina Faso is our common good; we don’t have two countries,” he declared, urging sports journalists to contribute to the broader national cause.
The event was marked by high-level representation, with Harouna Sana attending on behalf of the Ministry of Communication. “This is a topical issue.
It supports the government’s policy in this process of resilience and development,” he affirmed, acknowledging the alignment between the media’s influence and state objectives.
Boukari Belem, speaking as the sponsor’s representative, praised the commitment of journalists to national morale. “Our country is going through a period where all efforts are beneficial.
We see how journalists are striving to bring us joy and allow us to maintain hope for the future. The more sport advances, the more it galvanizes and the more resilient we are,” he said.
The day featured panel discussions on the responsibilities of sports media, as well as community-building activities.
Among the symbolic gestures was a tree planting initiative, reflecting the association’s commitment to growth, renewal, and environmental consciousness.
As Burkina Faso continues its path toward peace and reconstruction, the AJSB has positioned itself not just as a voice for sport, but as a pillar of patriotic engagement and national solidarity.
