SMICO SA becomes first microfinance Institution in DRC to launch bancassurance services in landmark partnership with rawsur

In a groundbreaking move for the Democratic Republic of Congo’s financial sector, SMICO SA has officially launched its bancassurance services, becoming the first microfinance institution in the country to offer such services.
This historic development marks a significant milestone in efforts to deepen financial inclusion across the DRC.
With approval from the Central Bank of Congo and the Insurance Regulation and Control Authority (ARCA), SMICO SA is now licensed to provide bancassurance—a blend of banking and insurance services—to thousands of Congolese citizens, particularly those from underserved and vulnerable communities.
The launch is the result of a strategic partnership with RAWSUR Assurance, including both its life and non-life subsidiaries, widely regarded as leading players in the Congolese insurance industry.
“This is an unprecedented step forward. For the first time, a microfinance institution is making insurance products accessible to thousands of Congolese from the most vulnerable segments of society,” said Pacifique Dagano, Director General of SMICO.
“These services are tailored to their realities and will help protect their families, incomes, and future from life’s uncertainties.”
The integration of insurance into microfinance operations is being celebrated as a key advancement in the DRC’s push to empower low-income populations with tools for economic resilience and social protection.
The move is expected to transform how microfinance clients engage with financial products, enabling them to safeguard their assets while building more secure livelihoods.
With this bold step, SMICO SA not only reinforces its role as a pioneer in the microfinance sector but also sets a new precedent for inclusive financial services in the region.
