Skyfly and Akata launch electric vehicle assembly venture in Eswatini

Skyfly Technologies and Akata Holdings have signed a groundbreaking partnership to begin electric vehicle (EV) assembly in Eswatini.
The initiative aims to position the country as a regional hub for sustainable transport, capitalising on its investor-friendly tariff regime.
Announced in the capital Mbabane on Thursday, the agreement was sealed between Skyfly Technologies Chairperson Lufto Dlamini and Akata Holdings Chairperson Alwyn Steenkamp, marking the formal launch of a collaboration that will see the local production of electric cars and motorbikes.
“Eswatini presents a unique advantage with its 10 percent tariff environment, making it one of the most attractive destinations for manufacturing in the region,” said Steenkamp.
He stressed that the venture aligns with global calls for cleaner transportation and offers economic potential through job creation and industrial growth.
The project is designed with sustainability at its core.
According to the partners, the vehicles will be powered by solar energy, enhancing affordability and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
“This is not just about building vehicles—it’s about transforming the energy landscape of our transport system,” said Dlamini.
“We are laying the foundation for Eswatini to become a leader in green mobility.”
Beyond environmental benefits, the partnership is expected to deliver tangible socio-economic gains.
The initial phase of operations will create 100 jobs, with projections of up to 400 permanent positions as production scales.
Plans are also in place to develop infrastructure for EV charging and maintenance, alongside training initiatives to equip local technicians with specialised skills.
This partnership marks a significant milestone for Eswatini’s industrial policy, aligning innovation, investment, and sustainability in a rapidly evolving global automotive market.
