Senegal has once again demonstrated its firm and principled stance in support of the Palestinian cause through high-level academic and governmental engagement.
A series of events held this week in Dakar placed the issue of Palestinian rights at the heart of national dialogue, affirming Senegal’s role as a steadfast advocate for justice and sovereignty in international affairs.
On July 8, Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) hosted a distinguished diplomatic delegation for a session dedicated to the Palestinian question.
Addressing the gathering, UCAD Rector Alioune Badara Kandji reaffirmed the university’s “moral and intellectual support for the Palestinian cause.”
He described the initiative not as a symbolic gesture, but as part of UCAD’s enduring tradition of academic engagement with global struggles for justice, freedom, and emancipation.
“UCAD has always been a space for mobilization in support of African and international causes,” the rector stated, underlining the university’s commitment to fostering critical dialogue and global solidarity.
A day later, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko received the visiting delegation from the Committee for the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.
The meeting took place alongside an international conference on the status of Jerusalem, held in the Senegalese capital. During the audience, the Prime Minister expressed Senegal’s “unwavering support” for Palestine, noting that the Palestinian struggle resonates deeply with the “values held by the Senegalese people.”
The delegation included Ambassador Coly Seck, Chair of the Committee, and Riyad Mansour, Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations.
Both figures welcomed Senegal’s enduring solidarity, especially within multilateral institutions where the West African country continues to champion Palestinian rights.
This dual gesture—academic and diplomatic—highlights Senegal’s consistent foreign policy approach, rooted in the defense of human dignity and national sovereignty.
Far from being a symbolic alignment, Senegal’s support for Palestine reflects a long-standing commitment that blends state diplomacy, institutional engagement, and civic awareness.
As global tensions intensify, Dakar’s actions reaffirm Senegal’s role on the international stage as a principled voice for justice and self-determination.
