President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has unveiled a new government line-up, appointing a team of ministers under Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to spearhead the country’s reform agenda.
The reshuffle, announced by the Presidency, reflects the administration’s intent to accelerate economic, social, and diplomatic initiatives in the face of growing national and international challenges.
The new government blends continuity with renewal. Some ministers from PASTEF’s inner circle retain key portfolios, ensuring policy consistency, while others have been reassigned to different departments to inject fresh energy into critical sectors.
Among the notable appointments, Yacine Fall, formerly Minister of Foreign Affairs, assumes the Ministry of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, and Abdourahmane Bamba Cissé is entrusted with the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security.
Other significant appointments include Birame Souley Diop as Minister of Armed Forces, Cheikh Niang at the helm of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, and Abdourahmane Sarr overseeing Economy, Planning, and Cooperation.
The Ministry of Finance and Budget will be led by Cheikh Diba, while Mabouba Diagne takes charge of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Livestock.
The reshuffle also consolidates key sectors such as culture, tourism, and crafts under a single ministry headed by Amadou Ba.
“The creation of a ministry bringing together Culture, Crafts, and Tourism aims to strengthen the synergy between these driving sectors of the economy,” analysts noted, while the Digital and Innovation portfolio remains under Alioune Sall, ensuring continuity in Senegal’s technological transformation.
The reshuffle occurs amid high public expectations for accelerated economic recovery, social stability, and stronger diplomatic positioning. Ministers’ portfolios were adjusted strategically, with some leaders shifting roles to enhance governance and policy delivery. The Ministry of the Environment and Higher Education saw notable exchanges to better align leadership with expertise and national priorities.
President Diomaye and Prime Minister Sonko now lead a leaner, strategically structured team tasked with implementing public policies and structural reforms. Observers anticipate that the coming weeks will reveal the government’s first concrete measures, setting the tone for Senegal’s political and economic trajectory in the months ahead.
This new cabinet marks a pivotal moment in Senegal’s governance, combining experienced leadership with targeted innovation to meet the country’s evolving domestic and international challenges.
