Senegalese wrestling is set to make an unprecedented international splash as the much-anticipated showdown between Modou Lô and Sa Thiès will kick off outside Africa for the first time.
Promoter Albourakh Events announced that the pre-fight media face-off will take place in Montreal on 18 October 2025, signalling a bold move to bring Senegal’s traditional wrestling onto a global stage.
Known as the “Roc des Parcelles,” Modou Lô has cultivated a reputation for selectivity, entering the arena only for battles that match his stature.
Since defeating Eumeu Sène in 2019, he has carefully chosen his fights, building a legend of strategic appearances and monumental duels. His upcoming clash with Sa Thiès, the younger brother of famed wrestler Balla Gaye 2, embodies this philosophy, positioning the bout as a marquee event for fans and diaspora audiences alike.
The Montreal media encounter will be part of a gala organised by Beuz Pro in collaboration with Éric Favre, featuring another prominent matchup between Amanekh and Bacary Sakho.
“This is about giving a global showcase to a duel already hailed as royal,” organisers said, highlighting the ambition to project Senegalese wrestling beyond its traditional confines.
Following the Canadian event, the promotional tour will continue in France, reflecting a strategy reminiscent of international boxing tours.
The wrestlers’ media appearances aim to heighten anticipation and build momentum ahead of the actual confrontation, which is scheduled for 5 April 2026 at Dakar’s National Arena, the day after Independence Day.
For Modou Lô, the fight is an opportunity to reaffirm his dominance and legacy. For Sa Thiès, it represents a chance to step out of the shadow of his elder brother and establish himself among the elite of Senegalese wrestling. Observers note that this duel is not merely a sporting contest but a symbolic milestone, signalling the globalisation of a discipline long confined to local stadiums.
With tickets expected to sell rapidly and the diaspora keenly following the lead-up, this historic encounter could mark the beginning of a new era for Senegalese wrestling, blending tradition with international spectacle. The arena in Dakar is anticipated to be electric, as fans await to see whether the reigning king will defend his throne or if a new heavyweight will rise.
