Senegal has officially joined the global boxing community, alongside Kenya, as World Boxing welcomes eight new national federations, bringing its total membership to 125 countries.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, September 23, highlighting the inclusion of the Senegalese Boxing Federation and the Kenya Boxing Federation as key additions representing Africa on the international stage.
These federations were admitted following a rigorous application process, which included evaluations of governance transparency, adherence to anti-doping policies approved by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), and formal recognition from each country’s National Olympic Committee or Ministry of Sports.
“ The membership of these federations reinforces our commitment to ensuring the integrity and global development of boxing,” the World Boxing Executive Committee stated in a press release.
World Boxing, established in 2023, aims to consolidate the sport’s position within the Olympic Movement. Its provisional recognition by the International Olympic Committee in February 2025 underscores its growing influence and ambition to unify boxing governance worldwide.
The final confirmation of the new federations will be decided at the upcoming World Boxing Congress in New Delhi, scheduled for November 2025. Until then, Senegal and Kenya join a rapidly expanding international network that spans four continents.
For Senegal, the move represents a significant step in promoting the sport domestically and strengthening its presence on the world stage. Local officials have expressed optimism that the country’s participation in World Boxing will foster talent development, attract international competitions, and provide athletes with opportunities to compete at the highest levels.
Similarly, Kenya’s federation aims to leverage the global platform to enhance training programs, improve athlete performance, and increase the sport’s visibility across the African continent.
The inclusion of these two African nations signals World Boxing’s commitment to expanding its reach, promoting fair play, and integrating emerging federations into a unified global framework, paving the way for the sport’s continued growth and development.
