Russia hosts inaugural Russia-Africa partnership forum in Sirius

The inaugural Russia-Africa Partnership Forum kicked off in Sirius on November 9, 2024, marking a significant step in strengthening ties between Russia and the African continent.

Organized by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this two-day diplomatic conference aims to deepen collaboration across multiple sectors, reinforcing Russia’s growing influence in Africa.

Over the course of the first day, the forum hosted 19 roundtable discussions and thematic events that addressed a wide range of strategic issues.

Key topics included counterterrorism cooperation, enhancing partnerships in higher education, and initiatives aimed at preventing the militarization of space while bolstering international cybersecurity.

Other important areas of focus included agricultural cooperation, joint efforts in combating infectious diseases, and the exploration of geological projects.

These discussions are part of broader ambitions to expand Russia’s role in Africa’s development, with a particular emphasis on health, security, and sustainable economic growth.

A standout event was the roundtable titled “Russia-Africa: In the Fight for Truth,” featuring prominent figures such as Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of Rossiya Segodnya, and pan-African activist Nathalie Yamb.

This session highlighted the importance of fostering a shared understanding and narrative between Russia and African nations.

The forum has brought together over 1,500 participants, including more than 40 ministers from various African countries, showcasing the significance of the partnership.

The event will conclude on November 10 with a plenary ministerial session, providing an opportunity for further dialogue and the cementing of collaborative agreements.

This landmark gathering represents Russia’s ongoing efforts to build long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with African nations, particularly in areas of economic development, security, and technology.
