An attempted armed robbery in Parakou ended fatally for one of the suspects, after a rapid police intervention on the night of July 15, 2025, thwarted the operation in the Bèyèrou district. The Republican Police confirmed the incident via their official digital communication channels.
According to authorities, three individuals were involved in the heist.
Responding swiftly to the alert, law enforcement units from Parakou’s first district and central police station, in coordination with local hunting groups, launched a search that quickly escalated into a confrontation.
“One of the robbers was neutralized during the police response,” the statement read.
The suspect, caught off-guard by the armed intervention, sustained fatal gunshot wounds. A second accomplice was also seriously injured—reportedly struck in the head—and was taken into custody at the scene.
The third suspect managed to escape on a motorcycle.
However, in a desperate attempt to cover his tracks, he abandoned the vehicle at the residence of his injured partner’s companion. Police have since launched a manhunt and are actively pursuing leads to capture him.
Authorities suspect the gang may have benefited from additional logistical support and are continuing their investigations. As part of an ongoing security operation in the Borgou department, the Republican Police have heightened patrols and mobilized all police stations within the region to counter rising criminal threats.
“This operation underscores the commitment of our forces to ensure the safety of citizens,” officials stated, calling on the public to assist by providing any useful information. They assured that all tips will be handled with complete confidentiality.
The July 15 incident serves as a stark reminder of the growing security measures being implemented across Parakou and reflects intensified law enforcement efforts aimed at dismantling criminal networks in northern Benin.
