Niamey – In a week marked by high-level diplomacy, Niger’s President and Head of State, General Abdourahamane Tiani, has stepped up efforts to deepen international cooperation through key engagements with the United Nations and the Republic of Angola.
On June 17, 2025, President Tiani welcomed Ms. Mama Keita, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Niger, to the presidential palace in Niamey. Ms. Keita leads the coordination of all UN agencies operating in the country, playing a pivotal role in aligning their efforts with Niger’s development priorities. Her mandate focuses on facilitating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), enhancing humanitarian interventions, and supporting national responses to the country’s ongoing socio-economic and security challenges.
The meeting was attended by prominent officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakary Yaou Sangaré, Presidential Chief of Staff and Government Spokesman Dr. Soumana Boubacar, and Ambassador Illo Adani, Diplomatic Advisor to the President. Discussions underscored the critical importance of unified international support and effective collaboration to address Niger’s complex development landscape.
A day later, on June 18, President Tiani received Ambassador Tête Antonio, Angola’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and special envoy of President João Lourenço.
Their meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new partnerships in strategic sectors such as energy, security, and economic development.
The Angolan envoy’s visit signals a mutual desire to elevate cooperation between the two African nations, reflecting Niger’s broader ambition to diversify its diplomatic and economic alliances.
Foreign Minister Sangaré and Ambassador Adani were once again present, reinforcing the continuity and strategic depth of Niger’s foreign policy approach.
These back-to-back diplomatic engagements reaffirm President Tiani’s commitment to reinforcing Niger’s presence on the international stage.
By expanding multilateral and bilateral partnerships, his administration is seeking pathways to sustainable development, resilience, and regional stability amid mounting global and domestic challenges.
