OEACP chief seeks Gabon’s backing for private investment forum ahead of malabo summit

Moussa Saleh, Secretary-General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OEACP), has formally sought the support of Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema for an upcoming high-level forum on private sector investment, to be held on the sidelines of the OEACP Heads of State and Government Summit later this year in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
During a meeting held Monday, July 21, in Libreville, Saleh and President Oligui Nguema discussed preparations for the landmark summit, emphasizing the importance of galvanizing support for private investment initiatives across OEACP member states.
Saleh appealed for Gabon’s active participation and political support to ensure the success of the forum, which is expected to serve as a springboard for development finance and the implementation of large-scale economic projects.
“The discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation between Gabon and the OEACP, particularly in the area of development financing and the rollout of transformative projects,” said a statement released following the meeting.
The OEACP Secretary-General reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting the Gabonese government in its economic and social transformation agenda.
He also used the occasion to present an overview of the institutional landscape of the OEACP at the start of his term, outlining a number of planned reforms aimed at enhancing the body’s overall effectiveness.
Founded to promote sustainable development and global integration for its members, the OEACP currently comprises 79 states across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific.
Moussa Saleh, who assumed leadership earlier this year, is serving a five-year mandate as Secretary-General.
As preparations intensify for the Malabo summit, Saleh’s visit underscores Gabon’s strategic role in regional diplomacy and investment mobilization within the OEACP framework.
