Nigeria’s national power grid faces yet another disruption amid widespread outages

Nigeria’s Transmission Company (TCN) has confirmed a partial disruption in the national power grid, affecting electricity distribution across multiple states.
The outage occurred at approximately 13:52 on November 5, 2024, according to TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah.
Mbah stated, “This incident follows a series of line and generator trips that led to instability within the grid, resulting in a partial system disturbance.”
Despite the significant impact, Mbah explained that data from the National Control Centre showed certain areas remained unaffected by the widespread outage.
Engineers are reportedly working around the clock to restore full power to affected regions.
As of 14:49, TCN has successfully reinstated power to the capital, Abuja, and efforts are underway to progressively restore supply to other regions across the country.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our electricity consumers,” Mbah added, acknowledging the frustration of many Nigerians over the recurring power supply issues.
This latest incident highlights the ongoing challenges within Nigeria’s energy sector, where frequent grid collapses disrupt daily life and hamper economic activity.
TCN’s efforts to stabilize the grid continue amid increasing demand for a reliable electricity supply.
