President Abdourahamane Tiani has expressed deep concern over the ongoing insecurity affecting residents in Téra, a department in the Tillabéri region, and pledged to step up government efforts to restore peace and improve living conditions.
During a visit to the area on Sunday, 5 October 2025, as part of a working mission to Tillabéri, the head of state addressed the local population outside the Téra prefecture. He assured them that he was fully aware of the challenges they face and conveyed his compassion and solidarity.
“We made this trip to see firsthand the state of the department’s roads. We also know that you are facing a problem of access to water, and we will do everything possible, with the help of the Almighty, to resolve this,” President Tiani said.
In his speech, the president acknowledged that insecurity has remained the most pressing issue in Téra and across the wider region for several years. He assured residents that significant efforts are being made by the Defense and Security Forces to combat the threat and restore stability.
“The entire population must mobilize alongside our army for the honor of the homeland. We hope that peace reigns in the country so that everyone can freely go about their business,” he added, urging citizens to continue their prayers for peace, stability, and national cohesion.
The president’s visit comes as communities in Téra continue to grapple with security challenges, including armed violence and restricted access to essential services such as water and infrastructure.
President Tiani was accompanied by several senior officials, including the President’s Chief of Staff, the Minister of State for National Defense, the Minister of Infrastructure, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Hydraulics, the Minister of Education, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, and the Governor of the Tillabéri region.
The visit underscores the government’s commitment to addressing insecurity in Niger’s western regions and to supporting local populations as they strive for peace and development.
