Nestlé Cameroon has reaffirmed its commitment to food safety as a cornerstone of its production process, marking the occasion of World Food Safety Day on June 7 with a factory visit and a high-level workshop at its Bonaberi plant in Douala.
Opening its doors to government officials, media representatives, and industry partners, the company showcased the rigorous hygiene and safety protocols that underpin its manufacturing standards.
The event, themed “Quality and Safety in Every Bite,” brought together experts, employees, and stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue around the science and principles of food safety.
“This was an important opportunity for us to strengthen our commitment to food safety and to reinforce a genuine culture of quality among our employees,” Nestlé Cameroon said in a statement.
Guiding guests through the production facility, team member Edith Nkemboh demonstrated Nestlé’s comprehensive safety framework.
Visitors observed firsthand the application of Good Hygiene Practices (GHP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system, pest control strategies, allergen management, safe storage and distribution methods, traceability measures, and rigorous documentation procedures.
“These practices are implemented daily to ensure that our products remain safe and healthy throughout the value chain,” Nkemboh explained.
The technical workshop that followed featured two prominent speakers: Professor Blanche Étoundi of the Faculty of Science at the University of Douala, and Étienne Oussil, focal point for One Health Cameroon.
Their lectures focused on the scientific foundations of food safety and the regulatory principles governing its application.
Addressing Nestlé staff in a packed conference hall, Oussil emphasized the importance of equipping workers with the knowledge to detect and prevent risks associated with food quality and safety.
Meanwhile, Professor Étoundi explored the science behind food safety systems that ensure consumer well-being.
The event concluded with remarks from Aboubacar Coulibaly, General Administrator of Nestlé Cameroon, who underscored the shared responsibility of maintaining high standards.
“Today’s activity illustrates our commitment to offering safe food to our consumers.
It is essential that every employee understands this responsibility is both collective and individual.
Everyone, in their role, plays a key part: be fully engaged, follow the rules, stay alert, and report any risks immediately,” he said.
The initiative reflects Nestlé Cameroon’s proactive approach to promoting food safety and fostering a culture of accountability at every stage of production.
