Morocco has continued its surge as a leading global tourist destination, welcoming 15 million visitors by the end of September 2025, marking a 14% increase compared to the same period last year, according to official figures released on 15 October.
September alone recorded 1.4 million arrivals, a 9% rise year-on-year, reflecting the momentum of the country’s ambitious 2023–2026 tourism strategy.
The Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and the Social and Solidarity Economy attributes the growth to strengthened air connectivity, targeted promotional campaigns, and ongoing improvements in the visitor experience.
“These 15 million arrivals reflect a strategy that is bearing fruit,” said Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor, emphasizing that the government remains committed to accelerating this momentum and transforming tourism into a robust economic lever across Morocco’s regions.
The 2023–2026 strategy aims to diversify Morocco’s offerings and improve infrastructure while positioning the country to host major international events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 GX Summit.
These initiatives are complemented by preparations for the 2030 World Cup, co-hosted with Spain and Portugal, focusing on enhancing service quality, hotel standards, and transportation.
Morocco’s tourism sector has outpaced global growth, which the World Tourism Organization forecasts at just 5% in 2025. The kingdom recorded 17.4 million arrivals in 2024, a 20% increase on 2023, surpassing Egypt’s 15.78 million. By July 2025, 11.6 million visitors had already arrived, predominantly from the UK, France, Spain, Italy, and Germany.
The strategy emphasises sustainable and inclusive growth, combining cultural tourism, ecotourism, and agritourism with digitalised services and improved air connectivity. By 2030, Morocco aims to welcome 26 million tourists, create 200,000 jobs, and secure a position among the world’s top ten destinations.
“The positive results so far demonstrate that Morocco’s approach to experience-driven and sustainable tourism is working,” Minister Ammor added, highlighting the sector’s potential to drive economic growth, foster regional development, and enhance the kingdom’s global profile.
With a record-breaking year underway, Morocco continues to consolidate its reputation as a premier travel destination while laying the groundwork for long-term, sustainable growth.
