Attijari Payment, Visa and Moroccan fintech Woliz have signed a strategic agreement designed to speed up the digitalisation of payments across Morocco, with a strong focus on the consumer goods industry.
The deal, announced on Friday in Casablanca, will integrate acceptance solutions developed by Attijari Payment — a subsidiary of the Attijariwafa Bank group — into Woliz’s platform.
The partnership seeks to meet the specific needs of merchants and distributors in the fast-moving consumer goods sector, while strengthening transaction security and accessibility.
Visa, bringing its global experience in payment technologies, will contribute expertise in financial education and secure processing.
The company says the initiative will help Moroccan businesses adopt more efficient and reliable digital payment systems.
“This agreement reflects our commitment to supporting merchants in their transition to modern and inclusive payment solutions,” said Fahd Bettache, CEO of Attijari Payment. He emphasised that the goal was to deliver simplicity and efficiency to everyday business operations.
Sami Romdhane, Managing Director of Visa Maroc, described the partnership as a union of local knowledge and international capability. “We are actively working to provide reliable and adapted solutions to enable Moroccan merchants to prosper in the digital age,” he noted.
For Woliz, the collaboration is an opportunity to address rising customer expectations. “Users want speed and simplicity,” said founder Kamal El Hardouzi. “This alliance will create an ecosystem where distributors, merchants and financial institutions join forces to promote sustainable financial inclusion.”
The partnership builds on momentum for Attijari Payment, which launched its merchant acquiring business in July after securing approval as a payment institution from Bank Al-Maghrib in March. The company now provides a full suite of tools, from fixed and mobile electronic terminals to online payment options, consolidating its position as a key player in Morocco’s digital finance sector.
