King Mohammed VI has congratulated Morocco’s national team of local players after they claimed their third African Nations Championship (CHAN) title, cementing their dominance in the continental competition.
The Atlas Lions secured victory in the final of the 2024 edition, hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, marking another milestone in Morocco’s football journey.
In a message to the players, coaching staff and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, the King expressed his “great pride and enthusiasm” over what he described as a “deserved” win. He hailed the triumph as “a source of joy and pride,” noting its significance as the team’s third CHAN title, following previous victories in 2018 and 2020.
The monarch also commended the collective effort of the squad, including technical, medical and administrative staff, highlighting their “patriotism and dedication.” He said the achievement would “undoubtedly be a strong source of motivation for our various national teams and sports clubs to move forward, imbued with the culture of victory, in order to win more titles.”
Morocco’s success in the tournament strengthens its position as one of the leading nations in African football. The CHAN, reserved for players active in their domestic leagues, has become an increasingly important platform for showcasing local talent.
This latest win follows Morocco’s historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and continued success of its clubs in African competitions, reinforcing the country’s growing influence on the international football stage.
King Mohammed VI concluded his message by extending his best wishes for the players’ careers and reaffirming his support for the development of national football.
The victory not only adds to Morocco’s sporting legacy but also symbolizes the Kingdom’s commitment to nurturing talent and asserting its presence as a powerhouse in African football.
