Amid escalating tensions in Gaza, Morocco has called for an immediate halt to hostilities and the reopening of all crossing points to facilitate humanitarian aid and the safe return of displaced civilians.
Speaking before the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva on Monday, Morocco’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Omar Zniber, urged renewed negotiations to resolve the conflict.
“All crossing points into the Gaza Strip must be opened to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid and the safe return of civilians to their homes,” he said.
The diplomat highlighted King Mohammed VI’s role, in his capacity as Chairman of the Al Quds Committee, in establishing a humanitarian airlift to Gaza.
The initiative has delivered nearly 300 tons of essential supplies—including food, medicines, and relief materials—through new routes aimed at alleviating civilian suffering.
Morocco also emphasized the need to respect the historical status quo of 1967 governing Islamic and Christian holy sites in Al Quds and reaffirmed its support for the central role of UNRWA and other Palestinian institutions in providing humanitarian assistance.
“We remain committed to preserving the institutions that deliver essential aid to the Palestinian people,” Ambassador Zniber said.
The call for dialogue coincides with US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 21-point Gaza peace plan, which seeks an immediate end to the war triggered by the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
The plan, accepted by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, outlines a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces and the release of all hostages within 72 hours.
Morocco welcomed the international momentum supporting recognition of the State of Palestine, describing the two-state solution as the “most rational and realistic path” to break the cycle of violence.
The North African kingdom had reiterated its support for this approach during an Arab League meeting on September 4.
As diplomatic efforts intensify, Morocco is positioning itself as a key advocate for humanitarian relief and renewed dialogue, calling on all parties to prioritize civilian safety and long-term peace in Gaza.
