Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has expressed full confidence that Morocco will host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, dismissing rumours about a potential withdrawal from the tournament.
Speaking on the sidelines of CAF’s 47th General Assembly in Kinshasa on Monday, October 6, Motsepe affirmed Morocco’s central role in the upcoming competition. “Our position is very clear.
Morocco is Plan A, Morocco is Plan B, Morocco is the plan,” he said.
Motsepe also emphasised the strong collaboration between CAF and Moroccan authorities, citizens, and stakeholders to ensure a successful tournament.
“We are absolutely confident that we, as CAF, will cooperate and work hand in hand with the government, the people, and all citizens of Morocco to organise the most successful Africa Cup of Nations in the history of this competition,” he added.
The CAF president highlighted that there has never been any discussion of withdrawing or relocating the event. His remarks come amid recent demonstrations in several Moroccan cities organised by the GenZ 212 collective, who have been calling for reforms in education and public health services.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. Motsepe’s statements are intended to reassure football fans, players, and sponsors that preparations for the tournament remain on track despite social unrest in parts of the country.
Observers note that Morocco has invested heavily in stadiums, infrastructure, and logistics to ensure the tournament meets international standards. CAF’s endorsement underscores confidence in the kingdom’s capacity to host a seamless and high-profile event, showcasing African football to a global audience.
With the countdown to the opening match underway, attention now turns to finalising venues, security measures, and operational details to guarantee that the Africa Cup of Nations proceeds smoothly and celebrates the continent’s premier footballing talent.
