Mr. Mbah Éric Mbah has secured a second term as President of the Cameroon Bar Association, following a decisive re-election in the early hours of Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the Palais des Sports in Yaoundé.
The re-election took place during a high-profile elective general assembly, confirming Mbah’s continued leadership at the helm of the legal profession in the country.
His initial mandate began in 2022, and his second term cements his role in guiding one of Cameroon’s most influential legal institutions.
Mbah, a seasoned lawyer and respected figure within the legal community, becomes the seventh English-speaking president in the history of the Cameroon Bar Association.
His predecessors include Dinka Gorgi Forgum (1974–1982), Bernard Muna (1986–1992), Luke Sendze (1994–1997), Akere Tabeng Muna (1997–2002), Emmanuel Eta Bessong (2008–2012), and Francis Sama (2012–2015).
Born in 1970, the 55-year-old Mbah is a graduate of the University of Yaoundé II Soa. His professional journey within the Bar Association began in 2001 when he joined the junior council.
He rose steadily through the ranks, gaining admission to the senior council in 2003, and eventually becoming a full member of the senior bar council in 2018.
In addition to his legal career, Mbah is known for his political involvement as a member of the Social Democratic Front (SDF), a major opposition party in Cameroon.
With more than two decades of legal experience, Mbah is widely regarded as a pillar of the Cameroonian legal system.
His re-election is seen by many observers as an endorsement of his leadership and a vote of confidence in his vision for a more robust, independent, and transparent legal profession.
