Mauritania has announced plans to establish its own pavilion at the upcoming climate summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 12 November, marking a significant step in its efforts to address climate change on a global platform.
The Mauritanian delegation, led by Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development Masouda Bint Baham Ould Mohamed Laghzaf, arrived in Baku earlier this week to oversee preparations for the summit.
The delegation includes the Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment, Moulay Ibrahim Ould Moulay Ibrahim; senior ministry official Sidi Mohamed Ould Wafi; and Oba Moussa Abdallah, Director of Climate and Green Economy.
According to official statements, Mauritania’s pavilion will serve as a focal point for a range of key activities and discussions during the summit.
The initiative underscores Mauritania’s commitment to advancing dialogue on climate resilience, sustainable development, and green innovation, as well as fostering international cooperation.
The summit’s agenda will address critical global climate issues, including the promotion of renewable energy as a strategy to mitigate climate change, mobilizing substantial financial resources to reduce climate risks, and developing a regulatory framework to activate the Global Loss and Damage Fund.
This fund aims to assist countries affected by natural disasters exacerbated by climate change, providing much-needed support and resources.
A total of 198 delegations representing member states of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change are expected to attend.
In addition, international and regional organizations, civil society groups, and private sector representatives will participate, making this a truly global effort to tackle one of humanity’s most pressing challenges.
The Mauritanian pavilion will offer a platform for exchanging insights, sharing experiences, and enhancing partnerships as part of the nation’s broader strategy to combat climate change and drive sustainable growth.
