Mauritania’s High Authority for Press and Audiovisual Media has announced the launch of a new digital platform designed to register journalists and media professionals, marking a significant step toward regulating the country’s media industry.
In a statement, the authority confirmed that the Professional Registry of Journalists will serve as the primary database for journalists and public and private media institutions to submit their academic and professional details. The registry will act as the sole reference for verifying professional credentials across the sector.
According to the announcement, registration on the platform will be mandatory for all media workers — both in state-owned and private outlets — in line with laws governing the industry and the authority’s mandate to maintain comprehensive professional records.
Officials say the initiative aims to streamline oversight, strengthen transparency, and ensure media practitioners meet professional standards while providing a centralized resource for industry data.
The platform, now live, is expected to play a key role in organizing the media workforce, offering updated information that can be used to track qualifications, employment status, and institutional affiliations across Mauritania’s fast-evolving media landscape.
By formalizing the registration process, the High Authority hopes to not only modernize recordkeeping but also help build a more accountable and professionalized press corps, reinforcing the credibility of journalism in the country.
The registry will be open to submissions immediately, with compliance required of all journalists and media entities to avoid potential sanctions for non-registration, the authority warned.
