Mauritania’s Minister of Defence, Retired Personnel and Martyrs’ Children, Mr. Hanena Ould Sidi, has returned to Nouakchott following his participation in the 17th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025), held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 22 to 27 July.
During his visit, Minister Ould Sidi held a bilateral meeting with Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Güler on the sidelines of the high-profile event.
According to official sources, the discussion focused on enhancing military cooperation between Mauritania and Turkey. The meeting culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening defence ties between the two nations.
The Mauritanian delegation included several senior officials: Mr. Alioune Ainine, Chargé d’Affaires at the Mauritanian Embassy in Ankara; Colonel Mohamed Mahmoud Jdoud, Director of Central Equipment; Colonel Sidi Ould El Veirick, Military Attaché at the Embassy of Mauritania in Ankara; and Colonel Lif Mohamed Diady, Defence Minister’s Advisor.
IDEF 2025 brought together global leaders in the defence industry, offering participating countries a platform to showcase cutting-edge military technology and forge new strategic partnerships.
Mauritania’s engagement in the event signals its ongoing interest in strengthening international cooperation and modernising its military capabilities through global collaboration.
The signed agreement is expected to open new avenues for joint training programmes, technology exchange, and defence procurement initiatives between Ankara and Nouakchott.
