The Ministry of Interior of Libya’s Government of National Unity has announced the discovery of a “C5” missile on a private farm in the Al-Suwani area, approximately 20 kilometres south of the capital, Tripoli.
The finding was made public on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, highlighting ongoing efforts to remove dangerous war remnants from civilian areas.
According to an official statement posted on the ministry’s page, the Criminal Investigation Department received a report alerting authorities to the presence of suspicious war remnants on the farm. Acting swiftly, a specialized unit from the Security Inspection and Explosives Disposal Office within the Technical Affairs Department was dispatched to investigate the site.
Following a thorough survey, the team located the missile and safely transferred it to designated storage facilities. The ministry confirmed that the missile will be destroyed in line with established security protocols, ensuring no risk to nearby residents.
The Ministry of Interior stressed that security forces remain vigilant in responding to such threats to protect the public. Citizens have been urged to promptly report any suspicious objects or remnants of conflict to authorities as part of collective efforts to safeguard community safety.
This discovery underscores the continuing challenges Libya faces in clearing explosive remnants of war from civilian environments, a critical step towards stabilizing the country and protecting its population after years of conflict.
