The footage, which sparked outrage across the region, shows a Guinean woman being violently assaulted by Liberian police officers — an incident that has prompted swift diplomatic reaction from Conakry.
Minister Kouyaté strongly condemned the violence, urging the Liberian authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly and hold those responsible accountable.
“We firmly deplore these actions and demand that the Liberian government shed full light on this situation so that the perpetrators are sanctioned commensurate with their offense,” the Guinean foreign minister stated during the meeting.
In response, Mr Semah expressed regret over the incident, characterising it as an isolated act that does not reflect the official stance of the Liberian government.
He assured the Guinean authorities of Monrovia’s commitment to address the matter promptly.
“The Liberian government also deplores this unfortunate act,” Semah said. “Measures will be taken swiftly to resolve this regrettable incident.”
He also expressed gratitude for what he described as the fraternal approach taken by Guinea’s top diplomat, adding that he would report the matter to his superiors in Monrovia.
The incident comes amid heightened sensitivities in West Africa over the treatment of foreign nationals, with both governments under pressure to ensure accountability and maintain cordial bilateral relations.
