Hope for Young People Inc., a nonprofit organisation focused on youth empowerment, has hailed the Government of Liberia and the African Development Bank (AfDB) for launching the Youth Entrepreneurship Investment Bank (YEIB) — a $17.8 million initiative designed to transform youth development and entrepreneurship opportunities across the country.
The YEIB, unveiled on 22 July 2025 by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, is the first institution of its kind in Liberia and on the African continent. The initiative is expected to support more than 150 youth-led enterprises, unlock $500 million in youth-focused financing, and generate thousands of sustainable jobs for Liberians aged 18 to 35.
In a statement, Hope for Young People Inc. described the launch as a “game-changer” for Liberia’s youth.
“This is more than a financial commitment; it is the beginning of a new era of opportunity and dignity for Liberia’s youth,” the organisation said.
The nonprofit extended special recognition to Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan for his “exceptional leadership and tireless advocacy,” crediting his efforts with securing Liberia’s selection as the pilot country for the programme.
“Minister Ngafuan has once again demonstrated what it means to lead with purpose, vision, and patriotism,” said Thomas Tamba Bundoo, Founder and Executive Director of Hope for Young People Inc.
Bundoo also expressed gratitude to Dr. Adesina for selecting Liberia as the launch site, while praising President Boakai for seizing the opportunity and reaffirming his dedication to empowering Liberia’s younger generation.
According to Bundoo, the new Youth Bank will provide young Liberians with access to capital, job opportunities, and resources to turn innovative ideas into thriving industries.
“To the youth of Liberia: this is your moment,” Bundoo said. “Let us reject violence, drug abuse, and unproductive behavior, and instead channel our energy into innovation, entrepreneurship, and service.”
Hope for Young People Inc. pledged to work alongside the government and development partners to ensure the success of the YEIB, stressing its commitment to guarantee that “no young Liberian is left behind.”
