The River Gee County Health Team (RGCHT) has successfully wrapped up a transformative three-day training aimed at digitizing the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) across the county.
Held from July 21 to July 23, 2025, the workshop gathered over 50 health workers representing all 20 health facilities within River Gee.
Participants included vaccinators, Registered Midwives (RMs), District Child Survival Focal Persons, and County Health Team supervisors, all brought together through a collaborative effort between UNICEF and the Ministry of Health.
Launching the training, Acting County Health Officer and Director of the Community Health Department, Mr Eric Sneh Chea, acknowledged the commitment of attendees, some of whom travelled considerable distances to participate.
“This digital training is essential for improving our health facility reporting system,” Mr Chea told the participants. “Let us all take it seriously so that the quality of reports from each facility can significantly improve.”
Facilitators from the Ministry of Health in Monrovia led the sessions, emphasizing the critical role of Registered Midwives in the new digital reporting framework. As direct supervisors of vaccinators, RMs will now oversee the management of smartphones assigned to their facilities to ensure real-time data submission.
This digital shift is designed to streamline immunization records, improving the accuracy and timeliness of data flowing from rural health centers to national health databases.
Expressing their appreciation, participants thanked the Ministry of Health and RGCHT for prioritizing their region. Many highlighted how the training would enhance their operational efficiency and reduce delays in reporting immunization data.
They also urged sustained support from the Ministry and partners, stressing the importance of ongoing capacity-building and follow-up efforts to reinforce health outcomes across River Gee County and Liberia as a whole.
The digital immunization initiative signals a vital step forward in modernizing Liberia’s healthcare system and ensuring children receive timely vaccinations through improved data management and accountability.
