Les Transformateurs vow to persist in dialogue following Dr. Masra’s detention amid legal battle

In the wake of the continued detention of Dr. Masra Succès, Les Transformateurs—a political movement backing the former Prime Minister—and its allied Justice-Equality Coalition have reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue with Chad’s authorities, despite mounting tensions and legal setbacks.
A joint press conference held on June 21 brought together leaders from Les Transformateurs, members of the Justice-Equality Coalition, and a legal team of some thirty lawyers defending Dr. Masra Succès.
This united front came just 48 hours after the Criminal Court denied the former Prime Minister’s request for release, a decision the coalition vehemently condemned as “illegal” and “arbitrary.”
Mr. Kadjilembaye Francis, coordinator of the lawyers’ collective, underscored the group’s firm stance against what they perceive as a politically motivated detention.
“Their arrest and detention are not grounded in law but in political expediency,” he asserted.
Dr. Sitack Yombatina, Vice President of Les Transformateurs, strongly criticized those responsible for Dr. Masra’s detention, describing it as an act of “revenge” and a “shameful incitement to hatred and division.”
He appealed directly to the President of Chad, urging, “Those behind this provocation must be clearly identified and punished.”
Amid accusations of judicial manipulation, the coalition insists that legal proceedings represent a “political trial” designed to silence opposition voices.
Despite the fraught atmosphere, Dr. Yombatina emphasized that Les Transformateurs remains committed to engagement with the government.
“We are a party of dialogue and we continue to dialogue.
Contacts continue with each other.
We will not tell you how it is going,” he said, indicating ongoing, albeit discreet, negotiations.
This unfolding drama marks a critical moment for Chad’s political landscape as opposition groups grapple with state power, seeking justice for Dr. Masra while balancing demands for peace and national unity.
The coalition’s resolve to maintain dialogue reflects a cautious but determined strategy amid rising political tensions in the country.
