Nelius Mukami Rwamba Mwaura, wife of Kenya’s Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura, has built an identity far beyond her husband’s public office. A maternal health advocate, entrepreneur, lifestyle blogger, and philanthropist, Mukami is changing lives through her initiatives while inspiring many with her resilience and transparency.
Mukami, an alumna of Kambui Girls High School, pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Sociology at the University of Nairobi in 2009, later enrolling for a Master of Arts in International Relations.
Her career began at Transparency International-Kenya, where she rose to Deputy Programme Officer – Governance and Policy Programme.
In 2013, she joined the Centre for Public Health and Development as a Knowledge Management and Corporate Relations Officer, a role she held for six years before venturing into business.
She now owns an events company, a fashion house, and runs her blog, Mukami Speaks, where she shares personal reflections and inspiring content.
In 2021, she founded the Kena Foundation, which supports premature babies, promotes maternal mental health, and offers outreach health services. Through its healing circles, the foundation assists women navigating parenting, wellness, and mental health challenges.
Mukami’s personal life reflects resilience. Married to Isaac Mwaura since January 2019 following a surprise 2014 proposal, she has openly shared her struggles, including a decade-long battle with endometriosis and the loss of two of her triplets born in 2017 at 28 weeks.
“I have become a different person after losing my two kids.
I now have tough skin and a tough heart and it is something that is life time,” she said.
After undergoing three endometriosis surgeries, she shared, “Bent but not broken. I am finally out of the hospital and cannot express enough how grateful I am for all the prayers, best wishes, and unwavering support.”
Through her foundation and personal story, Nelius Mukami Mwaura continues to impact countless lives in Kenya, championing maternal health and empowering women to rise above adversity.
