The National Chamber of Kings and Traditional Chiefs has issued a strong appeal for peace and civic responsibility, urging the people of Tchologo to ensure upcoming elections are conducted without violence.
During a visit to Ferkessédougou on June 26, 2025, the chamber’s president, Nanan Amon Tanoé Désiré, led a delegation to promote a message of reconciliation and national unity ahead of the polls.
Speaking before local leaders and residents, Nanan Tanoé reflected on Ivory coasts turbulent political past and emphasized the nation’s current trajectory towards peace and stability.
“Ivory coast needs us to be builders, not gravediggers, of coexistence,” he said. “Surely some politicians have some problems with each other, but the people are already reconciled.
So we call on you to make each election a moment of democratic maturity, not of peril.”
The visit to Tchologo forms part of a broader campaign by the National Chamber to foster social cohesion and prevent political violence, which has marred past electoral cycles.
Nanan Tanoé explained that traditional authorities had already held discussions with political parties to encourage a culture of peaceful competition and mutual respect.
He highlighted that, more than a decade after the country’s post-electoral crisis, Côte d’Ivoire is experiencing a long-awaited return to calm.
“After the painful moments that Côte d’Ivoire experienced more than 10 years ago, the country is finding peace,” he said, adding that the responsibility now lies with all citizens to uphold that progress.
The chamber’s outreach efforts in the Tchologo region are part of a national movement by traditional leaders to play a more active role in safeguarding democratic processes and preventing electoral tensions.
As the country approaches another pivotal vote, the voices of traditional authorities like Nanan Tanoé stand as a powerful reminder of the importance of unity, maturity, and peace at the ballot box.
