The youth of Toumodi gathered to celebrate the conclusion of the fifth edition of the Maracana football tournament at the Grande École school group stadium, in the presence of Mayor Idrissa Koné.
Organized by the municipality’s socio-cultural service, the tournament aimed to foster social cohesion and promote peaceful coexistence through sport. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mayor Koné emphasized the importance of unity in the community.
“Living together is the DNA of Toumodi. We have maintained this spirit for many years and must do everything to preserve this climate of peace, even as electoral periods approach,” he said, congratulating the youth on their display of fraternity and sportsmanship.
The competition brought together 32 teams from various neighborhoods and villages within the commune. The final match saw FC Krou narrowly defeat FC Aklomianbla 1–0, while the municipal team secured third place with a 1–0 victory over FC Favelas.
Cyriaque Kouamé, director of the socio-cultural service, highlighted the tournament’s wider benefits.
“This activity provides young people with an opportunity for healthy entertainment during the school holidays while preparing them to return to their academic work with renewed motivation,” he said.
The tournament, which ran from August 9 to September 6, also served as a platform for exchange and camaraderie among the youth of Toumodi. Beyond competition, it reinforced community bonds and offered participants a chance to engage in structured, constructive activities during the break.
Officials and residents praised the initiative for uniting different neighborhoods and villages under the shared love of sport, reinforcing the message that football can be a vehicle for peace, inclusion, and social development.
The event’s success underscores the role of local authorities and community programs in promoting cohesion and creating positive outlets for young people.
With the tournament concluded, the youth of Toumodi return to their daily lives energized, carrying forward lessons of teamwork, discipline, and mutual respect cultivated on the football field.
