Ivory Coast has received a major reinforcement of its armed forces, with 90 vehicles handed over to the Ivorian Armed Forces (FACI) in Abidjan on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
The delivery is part of a longstanding partnership between the United States and Ivory Coast, aimed at strengthening security across the country and the wider West African region. The U.S. Embassy highlighted the initiative on its official Facebook page, noting that this latest contribution builds on previous support throughout 2025.
Earlier assistance included 12 armored vehicles, 17 ambulances, 4,500 sets of bulletproof vests, 150 night-vision goggles, and the training of over 3,000 Ivorian military personnel. These measures are designed to enhance operational readiness and provide the Ivorian forces with modern tools to respond effectively to security challenges.
“Together, we strengthen security in the north of the country and across the region, for a safer and more prosperous future for our two peoples,” the U.S. Embassy said in its statement.
Military analysts view the handover as part of broader U.S. efforts to support regional stability and counter emerging threats, particularly in border areas prone to armed incursions and illicit trafficking. The vehicles are expected to improve mobility, coordination, and rapid response capabilities, particularly in northern provinces where security remains a priority.
For Ivory Coast, the partnership underscores a commitment to modernizing its armed forces while deepening cooperation with international allies. By combining advanced equipment with comprehensive training, both countries aim to create a more resilient and capable security apparatus capable of addressing evolving regional threats.
The handover ceremony in Abidjan was attended by senior military officials from both nations, marking a tangible step in strengthening bilateral defense relations and reinforcing Ivorian capacity to safeguard its citizens and national interests.
