Ivory Coast takes bold step toward gender equality in public institutions

The Ivorian Ministry of Women, Family and Children (MFFE) convened a national workshop from May 26 to 28, 2025, aimed at advancing the Standard Organizational Scheme for the Institutionalization of Gender (STIG) within ministries and public bodies.
The initiative, led by the Ministry’s Directorate of Gender and Equity (DGE), brought together key stakeholders in Jacqueville to draft and refine foundational documents that will guide the practical implementation of gender integration policies across state institutions.
Opening the workshop, Kouamé Kouassi Issoufou, Director of Gender and Equity, welcomed participants and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to embedding gender perspectives in all spheres of governance.
“This is an essential lever for achieving sustainable development goals, reducing inequalities and ensuring better governance,” he declared.
At the heart of the workshop was the review of three strategic documents, critical to cementing STIG as a framework for gender equity within public administration.
The documents will shape how ministries and agencies structure gender initiatives, ensuring coherence and accountability in their execution.
Representing Minister Nassénéba Touré, Technical Advisor Goré Sylvanus underscored the importance of the workshop in maintaining Côte d’Ivoire’s leadership role in regional gender policy.
“It is essential to position our country among those who contextualize and implement STIG bodies,” he said.
He also issued a call for full engagement, urging attendees to bring their expertise and insights to the fore.
“This commitment, as a flagship country in our community area, must translate into concrete results in terms of reducing gender inequalities, in support of our economic performance,” he added.
Mr. Goré expressed gratitude to UEMOA (West African Economic and Monetary Union) for its technical and financial backing.
STIG was formally adopted by UEMOA’s Council of Ministers through Decision No. 005/2022/CM/UEMOA on June 24, 2022 — a milestone in regional efforts to mainstream gender across governance structures.
As Côte d’Ivoire continues to position itself at the forefront of gender-inclusive development, this workshop marks a critical turning point in aligning institutional practice with the broader goal of equitable and sustainable growth.
