Soumahoro Mekassa Junior has been officially appointed as the new president of the Séguéla municipal youth movement, following a formal swearing-in ceremony at the Madègbè Cultural Center.
The event, held on Saturday, was presided over by the regional prefect, Karim Diarrassouba, and attended by prominent local officials including Mayor Dr. Maferima Bamba M’Bahia, the delegated mediator of the Worodougou and Béré regions, Soro Doh Siéié, and the president of the National Federation of Communal Youth Unions of Côte d’Ivoire (FENUJECI), Diabaté Gaoussou.
In keeping with traditional rites, Soumahoro was seated three times in his chair before receiving the torch from his predecessor, a symbolic gesture marking the start of a term defined by responsibility and dedication.
During his inaugural speech, Soumahoro paid homage to the pioneers of the Worodougou region while highlighting its untapped potential. He urged young people to actively participate in local development, emphasizing the urgent need to address challenges such as unemployment and access to vocational training. “Young people are just waiting to be mentored and trained,” he stated.
Soumahoro outlined a series of priorities for his tenure, including supporting youth entrepreneurship, promoting cultural and sporting initiatives, fostering civic engagement, and equipping young residents with skills to enhance their competitiveness in the job market.
He also stressed the importance of collaboration between the youth, municipal leaders, and local authorities to transform Séguéla into a model community. “The future of Séguéla will not be built without young people. Our responsibility is great, and our determination is even greater,” he said.
To facilitate the work of the newly appointed team, the town hall has provided a dedicated vehicle, ensuring the municipal youth movement can operate efficiently and reach more communities.
The appointment of Soumahoro Mekassa Junior signals a renewed focus on empowering young people in Séguéla, highlighting their central role in shaping the region’s social, economic, and cultural future.
