The prefect of Ouangolodougou, Touré Djamatigui, called on the country’s Defense and Security Forces (FDS) to intensify their vigilance during the monthly Salute to the Colors ceremony on Monday, September 1, 2025.
Referring to last week’s armed attack on a village in Tehini, the administrative official emphasised the need for the FDS to learn from the incident to prevent similar threats in the region.
“The enemy can appear out of nowhere (…) with an unexpected modus operandi,” he said, underscoring the importance of heightened alertness in safeguarding local communities.
Touré Djamatigui also appealed to residents to cooperate fully with security forces by sharing timely and accurate information. “It is with information, and the right information, that they can properly carry out their mission.
We can equip them and give them all the training and equipment they need, but if they don’t have the right information, they won’t be able to carry out what is expected of them,” he stressed.
The prefect’s address highlighted the critical role of citizen vigilance in supporting security operations, particularly in border regions and areas susceptible to attacks.
He urged the population to report any suspicious activity promptly and to avoid complicity with individuals who may pose a threat to public safety.
The ceremony, held in the courtyard of the Ouangolodougou prefecture, brought together officers from various corps and served as a platform to reinforce discipline and readiness among security personnel.
The prefect’s message comes amid ongoing concerns over armed incursions in northern Ivory Coast, prompting both local authorities and residents to remain alert.
By combining enhanced operational readiness with community cooperation, the prefect emphasized that the FDS could more effectively protect civilians and maintain stability in the region.
