Police in Minignan, northern Ivory Coast, have arrested three young men accused of carrying out a string of robberies and burglaries in the town. The arrests were made following an anonymous tip-off from local residents.
The suspects, all in their twenties, are alleged to have broken into shops and stolen several motorcycles in recent weeks.
Authorities say CCTV footage helped identify one member of the group, who later confessed and revealed the identities of his two accomplices.
Commissioner Bogui Brice, head of the Minignan police station, praised the collaboration between law enforcement and the community, describing it as a key factor in the success of the operation.
“It was thanks to a security plan involving the population in securing their area, as part of community policing, that we were able to catch the gang that was operating,” he said. “This good collaboration helps to guarantee peace for everyone in the city.”
The arrests highlight growing efforts to strengthen community policing in the region, with authorities encouraging residents to play a more active role in safeguarding their neighbourhoods. Officials say this approach not only boosts trust between citizens and law enforcement but also enhances the effectiveness of security measures.
The three suspects remain in custody as investigations continue into their alleged involvement in the robberies. Local police say they will maintain close cooperation with residents to ensure lasting peace and security in Minignan.
