Ivory Coast’s Grand Lahou police have arrested a suspected drug trafficker known locally as Momo, uncovering a significant stash of narcotics hidden in his home in the village of Braffedon.
The 27-year-old, whose real name is BM, was apprehended during a raid on the night of July 20-21 after police received anonymous tips about suspicious activities linked to the new resident, who arrived in the village just last month from Yamoussoukro.
Deputy Commissioner N’goran Yao, head of the Grand Lahou police station, explained that Momo initially posed as a fish seller and motorcycle repairer, but a close investigation revealed that his freezer contained drugs instead of fish.
The seizure included 52 bags of heroin, 70 cannabis pellets, 36 tramadol tablets known locally as “Kadafi,” 50 syringes, five mobile phones, two pairs of scissors, and smoking papers.
“Momo confessed to choosing Braffedon, located just two kilometres from the mouth of Lahou Kpanda, as his base of operations,” Deputy Commissioner Yao said.
This marks the second major drug trafficker apprehended by Grand Lahou police this year, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking in the region.
Following his arrest, Momo was presented to the competent courts on Wednesday to face charges related to drug trafficking and possession.
The Grand Lahou police have reiterated their commitment to pursuing all leads and cracking down on illegal drug operations threatening local communities.
As Ivory Coast continues to battle drug trafficking networks, law enforcement agencies are relying increasingly on community intelligence and coordinated investigations to dismantle criminal activities in remote and coastal areas such as Braffedon.
