Women in Yamoussoukro gathered on Saturday to witness the inauguration of Oupoh Geneviève as the new president of the Association of United and Dynamic Sisters of Yamoussoukro (ASUDY), a group dedicated to fostering peace, unity, and social cohesion in the political capital.
Djédjé Valérie, president of the organizing committee, highlighted the inclusive nature of ASUDY, which brings together women from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds. “We do not want to relive the sad events of 2020.
Dioula, Bété, Baoulé, Gouro, Guéré, Yacouba… all the women of Yamoussoukro have united to advocate peace, love and harmony in our city,” she said. Valérie urged women across Côte d’Ivoire to work together to preserve national stability.
Mayor Kouassi Kouamé Patrice, who served as patron of the ceremony, praised the association’s cross-cutting approach.
“ASUDY happily brings together women from all regions of Côte d’Ivoire,” he said, pledging institutional support for its economic and social initiatives.
He further invited the executive committee to a meeting to define how this support would be structured and implemented.
Charles Attoungbré, representing the CEO of Kla Construction, a partner of the event, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting ASUDY’s projects. He emphasized the vital role of community engagement in consolidating social cohesion and sustaining peace.
Beyond promoting unity, ASUDY is actively involved in income-generating initiatives. The association supports environmentally conscious cassava cultivation, free of chemical inputs, to enhance the financial autonomy of its members while contributing to local food security.
The inauguration reflects a broader effort to empower women as agents of social stability and economic development in Ivory Coast. By fostering collaboration across ethnic and religious lines, ASUDY aims not only to prevent conflict but also to strengthen community resilience and self-sufficiency in Yamoussoukro and beyond.
Saturday’s ceremony marked both a symbolic and practical step toward uniting women in service of peace, prosperity, and civic engagement in the nation’s capital.
